Personalized gourmet itineraries
Your custom itinerary will include the bistros, brasseries and restaurants that perfectly match your tastes.
Suppose chocolate is your passion. Drawing on my eleven years' experience as a Paris restaurant critic and food expert, I will not only point you to the best chocolatiers in town, but will tell you which creations (Jean-Paul Hévin's cheese-filled chocolates, for instance) you must not miss. Or say you can't get enough of cheese. I'll take you by the hand—virtually, since you enjoy your independence while on holiday—and lead you into the cellars of the fromagers who supply the city's best restaurants. Speaking of restaurants, I have in-depth knowledge of Paris dining, having edited five editions of the Time Out Eating and Drinking in Paris guide and written about restaurants for the Paris Notes newsletter for the past six years. Traditional bistros, buzzy brasseries, luxe de luxe restaurants, and the latest hot spots—I know them all and will find the ones that are just right for you.
All you need to do is send me an e-mail telling me about yourself—your food likes and dislikes (if any), the kinds of restaurants where you feel at home, any obsessions (such as kitchen shops, mustard, apple tarts, steak tartare, onion soup, pain au chocolat, you name it), and specific places you have heard of and would like to try. If you prefer, I will send you a questionnaire to help define your food personality. I will then write back asking for any more information I might need to custom-design your food itinerary for one or more days. I do not use set itineraries—yours will be specially designed for you and no-one else—and I visit every shop, market, restaurant and café that I recommend. You will receive an itinerary along with a map locating the shops and restaurants, and you will be free to discover all the incredible food Paris has to offer on your own.
Consider offering an Edible Paris itinerary as a gift to food-loving friends or as a treat for yourself—something to make your trip to Paris especially memorable.
Guided food tours
During my three-hour guided food tours for up to six people, I'll take you behind the scenes at some of my favorite Paris food shops and guide you through the best local markets. Like the itineraries, the guided food tours are personalized according to your preferences. Depending on your tastes, a tour might include:
- A visit to a world-renowned boulangerie where you will meet the baker and learn about the French art of breadbaking;
- A glimpse at the life of a dedicated chocolatier who trained with the very best before opening his own boutique;
- A tour of a cheese cellar beneath one of the city's true fromageries (shops that age cheeses on the premises before selling them in peak condition);
- A sampling of unusual oils, ranging from pine nut to pistachio.
During the tour you can aslo take advantage of my expertise as a longtime Paris restaurant critic to ask me for recommendations. If you would like to have lunch or dinner together, the price of the meal will be added on to the cost of the tour.
